About Slime Stampede

What is Slime Stampede?

Slime Stampede is a free typing runner you play in your browser. You sprint up a dirt road with a stampede of slimes close behind, and the only way to move is to type: clear the word over each monster in your way before the horde catches you.

Every correct letter gives you a burst of speed, and every typo makes you stumble. The road keeps getting faster and the words keep getting longer, so every run ends eventually. The question is how many metres you can bank first.

There is no sign-up and nothing to install. Play an endless run whenever you like, take on the Daily run that everyone shares for a day, race a friend's ghost from a challenge link, or run a Party with two computer-controlled runners.

What it looks like

The game is pixel art: a runner, a dirt road with a distance marker every 100 m, and a horde of slimes along the bottom of the screen that you never want to see grow. Words float over each obstacle, banners pop up for combos, items and brutes, and the status bar tracks your distance, speed and combo.

How to play Slime Stampede

  1. Choose how to run. On the title screen, type RUN for an endless run, DAILY for today's shared road, or PARTY to race two computer-controlled runners. You can also tap or click a button. If you opened a friend's challenge link, typing RACE (or RUN) starts a run against their ghost.

  2. Type the word over the monster ahead. Each blocker in your lane carries a word, and it becomes typeable about 38 m before you reach it. Start typing and the game locks onto the nearest word that begins with your letter. Every correct letter lights up and gives you a burst of speed; finish the word and the monster is cleared.

Type the word over the monster ahead; every correct letter is a burst of speed.
  3. Typos trip you up. A wrong letter makes you stumble: for about 0.3 seconds you move at 30% speed, and your combo resets. Your progress on the word is kept, so just type the next correct letter. Spaces the game isn't expecting are ignored, and Backspace drops the word you're locked onto with no penalty.
  4. Build a combo. Consecutive correct letters build a combo. At 10, 25, 50 and 100 in a row your multiplier rises to ×1.15, ×1.3, ×1.45 and ×1.6, boosting your bursts of speed and the points each clear is worth. A banner announces every tier, and a single typo sends you back to zero.
  5. Grab roadside items. Roughly one row in four has an item beside the road. Type its name to grab it: flare pushes the stampede back, boots make you faster and shield smashes the next blocker. Items are optional — start typing a different word and a half-typed item is dropped.
  6. Brace for brutes. At 420 m, and every 480 m after that, a BRUTE AHEAD banner warns you that a King Slime, an Orc or an Armored Orc is blocking the road. Brutes ask for a whole sentence of three to five short words, spaces included, and the sentences get harder with each one. A brute is worth 10 times a normal blocker.

BRUTE AHEAD: a sentence-long blocker is coming up the road.
  7. Outrun the stampede. The road speeds up the longer you run, and the horde follows at 90% of its pace. It eases in over the first 5 seconds, but it is never more than about 17 m behind you, so every stumble is visible on screen. If it gets within 7 m and you pull away again past 13 m, you score a close call (+15 points). A banner marks every 250 m.

  8. Read your result. When the stampede catches you, the result card shows your distance and rank, peak WPM, best combo, close calls, accuracy, words cleared and time, plus the word you were eaten typing. Share it, challenge a friend to race your ghost, watch the replay, or run again.

Roadside items

Items appear beside the road after the first couple of obstacles. Typing an item's name picks it up and earns 25 bonus points.

flare
Pushes the stampede about 20 m back — the best escape when the horde is right behind you.
boots
Run 40% faster for 5 seconds.
shield
Smashes the next blocker that would stop you; a ring around the runner shows it is active.
splat
Party mode only: slimes every runner behind you.

Type "flare" to push the stampede about 20 m back.
A yellow boot item labelled "boots" beside the road, under a COMBO 10 banner

Tips

Game modes

Endless run
Run until the stampede catches you. Your best distance is remembered in this browser.
Daily
One road for everyone each day (UTC): the same words and obstacles in the same places. Daily runs are numbered (Daily #1, #2, and so on), so you can compare notes with friends.
Ghost race
Open a friend's challenge link and race a ghost of their run on exactly the same road.
Party
Run alongside two computer-controlled runners over a simulated network. Add or drop runners, up to 4 in total, and watch the network panel under the game.
Slime Stampede Party mode with three runners in separate lanes and a bar saying the stampede is 62 m behind
Party: you and two computer-controlled runners, each in their own lane.

Controls

On the title screen

RUN
Start an endless run — or, from a challenge link, a race against the ghost.
DAILY
Start today's Daily run.
PARTY
Start a Party run with two computer-controlled runners.
RACE
Race the ghost from a friend's challenge link (only available when you opened one).

Type the command or tap its button — both work.

While running

A–Z
Type the highlighted word. Upper or lower case, it makes no difference.
Space
Needed inside a brute's sentence; ignored everywhere else, so habitual word-gap spaces are never punished.
Backspace
Drops the word you are locked onto. Handy for abandoning an item you no longer want.
Esc
Pause and resume.
Mute
Switches the sound effects on and off. The game synthesises its own sounds, so there are no audio files to download.

After a run

Share
Share your result with a card image where your device supports it, otherwise copy a link.
Challenge a friend
Creates a link to your exact run. Whoever opens it races your ghost on the same road.
Watch replay
Plays your run back.
Run again / Menu
Jump straight into another run, or go back to the title screen.

Meet the stampede

The road holds two kinds of obstacle: everyday blockers that ask for a single word, and brutes that demand a whole sentence. Which one you meet depends on how far you have run.

Blockers

Pixel-art blue slime
Slime Blocker

Blocker · 3–4 letter words

The most common sight on the road: a small slime sitting in your lane with a short word hovering over it. Clear the word and you keep your speed; hesitate and the stampede closes in.

  • Carries a 3- or 4-letter word.
  • Worth 10 points before your combo multiplier.
  • The first 240 m use almost nothing else, so it is the place to build your first combo.
Pixel-art green goblin
Goblin Blocker

Blocker · 5-letter words

A shambling green blocker that plants itself in your lane once the road gets longer-worded. It never changes its mind about being in the way.

  • Always carries a 5-letter word.
  • Five-letter words start appearing from about 480 m and stay common until words settle at six letters.
Pixel-art horned slime
Horn Slime Blocker

Blocker · 6-letter words

The heaviest of the everyday blockers: a horned slime guarding the longest words in the game. Late in a run, you will see little else.

  • Always carries a 6-letter word.
  • Beyond about 1,440 m, three blockers in four are Horn Slimes.

Brutes

Pixel-art King Slime
King Slime Brute

Brute · first one at 420 m

A huge slime that fills the whole road. You cannot go around it, so you type its entire sentence, spaces and all, to smash straight through.

  • The first brute you meet, at 420 m, and every third one after it.
  • Its sentence is three to five short words, such as "out of my way".
  • Worth 100 points before your combo multiplier.
Pixel-art Orc
Orc Brute

Brute · second one at 900 m

The second brute is an Orc with a longer, trickier sentence. It looks far more threatening than it sounds — the sentences are friendly, just long.

  • Arrives 480 m after the King Slime.
  • Its sentences are a step harder, such as "the road is long".
Pixel-art Armored Orc
Armored Orc Brute

Brute · third one at 1,380 m

The toughest brute, plated head to toe. After it, the cycle starts over with another King Slime, and the sentences stay at their hardest level.

  • Arrives 480 m after the Orc.
  • Its sentences are the hardest in the game, such as "type fast or get goo".
